Nurturing children since 1971

 

At Rainbow Express Daycare, we believe in an all-rounded development of the child. Our facilities, both outdoor and indoor, reflect our philosophy.

Our program focuses on providing a nurturing atmosphere for children to learn through their play. We believe that each child is unique and we promote the optimum development of physical, intellectual, language, emotional and social skills and abilities.

As a licensed facility, we meet all the requirements of the Community Care Facility Act.

Our Programmes

  • Music Education

    Music education is important for our Children. Music helps develop the skills children need to learn an individual instrument or join a choral program. We receive weekly music instruction from an outside instructor. Children join the music teacher in singing, dancing and other activities. Music classes are normally offered on a weekly basis with a potential summer break.

  • Neighborhood Walks and Park Visits

    Rainbow Express teachers and children enjoy venturing on periodic walks along the streets of the beautiful James Bay area, as well as visit the parks and other destinations within a walking distance from the daycare, such as Irving Park, Fisherman's Wharf and a beach nearby. It is a great opportunity to not only enjoy the walk and explore the neighborhood but also get to a destination and enjoy an occasional picnic when the weather permits.

  • Environmental Sustainability Program - Nature Observation Garden

    We value the environment at our centre. We believe that fostering a good relationship of stewardship with the earth is key to a child’s development. Gardening with the children is a wonderful way for children to discover, explore, and learn. We involve the children every step of the way by digging to prepare the garden beds, adding soil, planting, harvesting, and preparing and sharing food.

  • Arts Program

    The childlike delight and innocent expression that artists convey with such passion is often rooted in nurturing and creative environments. Children are free to use different materials to create masterpieces. They are free to explore their own creativity. We value open-ended art projects that allow children to employ their imagination and creativity.

  • Circle / Story Time

    Rainbow Express teachers enjoy welcoming children throughout the day in a small or large group story time where everyone can enjoy some individual and quiet time while reading books, singing songs, telling stories and making deeper connections with teachers and peers.

  • Simone Torrico - ECE Program Lead

    Simone has worked in the ECE field since 2014, when she graduated from the Vancouver Community College. Even before that she has always worked with children as a psychologist in a rehabilitation hospital in Brazil, from where she moved to Canada in 2012.

    Simone has been part of the Rainbow Express Daycare since 2020. She thinks it is a privilege to spend her days surrounded by children and to be part of their learning journey. In her spare time Simone loves reading, gardening, traveling and enjoying the beautiful places in and around Victoria with her family.

  • Kate Johnson - ECE

    Kate has been working in childcare since 2013, and as an ECE since 2015. She graduated with honours from CDI College and is presently pursuing her studies via Pacific Rim. She has resided in Victoria since 2010, when she came out for a holiday from Calgary and chose to remain.

    Kate is delighted to be a member of the Rainbow family. She is the happy mother of a large family of creatures, including two ShihTzus and an ever-increasing number of reptiles, the majority of which are Hognose snakes. In her leisure time, she is an ardent reader who also enjoys puzzles and video games.

  • Taryn Manhas - ECEA

    Taryn was born and raised in a small town here on Vancouver island and moved back to Victoria from Duncan in 2017. She’s been working in the childcare field since end of 2014 having worked in many areas of the field and is currently completing her ECE.

    In her spare time, Taryn enjoys cooking, traveling and spending time with her family and friends. At Rainbow, Taryn enjoys watching the children learn new things and seeing how they challenge themselves.

  • Lauren Laprise - ECEA

    Lauren started off at Rainbow Express as a practicum student and has since taken on a few different roles during her time at the centre. She enjoys her role as an educator, taking great interest in child development and understanding how young minds work. At the centre you can usually find her experimenting with art projects, trying a new yoga routine or snuggled up in the book corner reading stories.

  • Archelle Cabote - Office Administrator

    Archelle has been working at Rainbow Express Daycare as an Office Administrator since September 2022. She moved from the Philippines to Victoria in April 2022 to study Business Administration through the University of Victoria's continuing studies program.

    Archelle has also successfully completed a Responsible Adult Certificate to assist occasionally and help us provide the best possible care. She enjoys working with children and has really enjoyed becoming an integral part of the team at Rainbow Express.
